ISO 45001
Occupational health and safety management systems
The importance of occupational health and safety management is recognized not only by employees but also by all interested parties – employers, customers, suppliers, insurance companies, shareholders and society as a whole.
The most well-known standard for occupational health and safety management systems, BS OHSAS 18001:2007, received its successor in March 2018 in the ISO 45001:2018 standard. This standard withdraws and replaces the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard, which expires on March 11, 2021.
ISO 45001 is an excellent solution and response to the increasing challenges faced by organizations in terms of the increase in the number of work-related injuries, duration of sick leave, lost working days, tightening of regulations in this area, increase in medical costs and the like.
This document specifies the requirements for an occupational safety and health (OH&S) management system and provides guidance for its use, to enable organizations to ensure safe and healthy workplaces, as well as to proactively improve their OH&S performance. This document is applicable to any organization that wants to establish, implement and maintain an OH&S management system to improve occupational safety and health, eliminate hazards and minimize OH&S risks (including system deficiencies), take advantage of OH&S ;S opportunity and to deal with non-conformities of the OH&S management system, which are related to its activities.
Benefits of applying OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001:
- Saving money – through the reduction of direct and indirect costs incurred as a result of accidents, illnesses and other factors;
- Increasing productivity – through reduction of downtime caused by illnesses or injuries of workers;
- Risk reduction – for the organization’s human resources in every work environment;
- Gaining a competitive advantage – by demonstrating to stakeholders that the organization is OH&S compliant through certification;
- Improving transparency – clearer understanding of security processes in the organization.
