IFS – International Food Standard

IFS was founded in 2003 under the name International Food Standard. Since then, the company, which records an annual growth of 10.9 percent, has expanded its 1 business with six standards and operates globally. IFS Standards are unique standards related to food, products, and services. They ensure that companies certified according to IFS standards produce products or provide services that comply with customer requirements, and at the same time work to improve their processes.

What is the IFS standard and what is its purpose?

  • IFS (International Featured Standard) is a standard that integrates food quality and safety requirements. It was developed to verify the competence of food manufacturers in both aspects, using a single standard. This saves time and money.

Why is the IFS standard important?

  • IFS is a globally recognized standard that ensures a high level of food safety and quality.

  • It is based on the principle of traceability, allowing product tracking throughout the entire chain, from the primary producer to the end consumer.

  • It enables manufacturers to gain consumer confidence and ensure protection through the production of safe and quality products.

  • It also enables improved cost efficiency throughout the chain.

How is the IFS standard implemented?

  • Manufacturers have the flexibility to develop solutions that best suit their needs.

  • IFS auditors check the functionality of these solutions and their ability to ensure product safety.

  • IFS does not prescribe specific procedures or equipment, unless they are necessary for safe production.

In short, the IFS standard provides a framework for food manufacturers to demonstrate their commitment to safety and quality, while allowing flexibility in how they achieve this.

All IFS-related materials are published in five languages: German, English, Spanish, French, and Italian. The goal of IFS is to provide comparability and transparency for the user throughout the supply chain, as well as to reduce costs for suppliers and retailers. These goals are implemented not only by the IFS team but also by the IFS board 1 as well asITC (IFS Technical Committee).
