- EN 1090-1 Execution of steel and aluminum constructions. Part 1: Requirements for conformity assessment of structural components,
- EN 15085-2 Railway equipment – Welding of railway vehicle structures and their components. Part 2: Quality requirements and manufacturer certification,
- ISO 3834, Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials.
Certification according to EN 1090
The Construction Products Regulation 305/2011/EU (CPR) contains requirements that must be met by:
- construction,
- materials and
- finished products
which are installed in the building so that they are safe during use and do not have a negative impact on health.
Unlike other New Approach directives, the CPR does not apply directly to construction products (although they will bear the CE mark), but to the execution of works where these products are permanently installed.
When it comes to metal constructions, as one of the construction products, we say that the basic, harmonized standard for metal constructions is EN 1090-1.
Construction companies are certified in accordance with the requirements of EN 1090-2 (steel products) and EN 1090-3 (aluminum products), which means that all products of these construction companies can bear the CE mark.
The CE mark, in this case, represents the manufacturer’s mark and indicates that the product has been designed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the CPR directive 305/2011/EU and that an appropriate conformity assessment has been carried out.
Certification according to EN 15085-2
EN 15085 is another series of standards related to welding. Unlike the EN ISO 3834 series standards which can be applied to all products, the EN 15085 standard refers to the manufacture of railway parts. Each of the parts of the standard, of which there are a total of 5, has its own specificity, and yet they all refer to the production of parts by welding metal parts exclusively on the railway. The manufacturer’s certification takes place in accordance with the requirements of EN 15085-2. Inspectors authorized to check in accordance with this standard check the manufacturer from the point of view of personnel competence, adequacy of equipment and infrastructure. What we can boast about is certainly the auditor for EN 15085-2, which is one of the few, not only in Serbia but also in the surrounding area.
Certification of the organization according to EN ISO 3834
EN ISO 3834 is a series of standards that deal with the quality of welded joints created by melting metallic materials and is not related to the type of product. For most manufacturing companies, it is desirable to have a certificate, which is from an independent certification house, issued in accordance with one of the standards from the EN ISO 3834 series.
Each of the standards from the EN ISO 3834 series defines the corresponding requirements that the manufacturer of welded parts must fulfill, both in the workshop and on the construction site. The requirements relate primarily to the competence of the staff and the adequacy of the equipment and infrastructure. Fulfillment of these requirements is a guarantee that welding, as one of the special and important processes, is performed in an appropriate manner and thus the manufacturer proves its ability to produce a welded product and/or construction in accordance with the required criteria.
Many years of experience have confirmed that one of the main requirements of the EN ISO 3834-2 standard, the qualification of welding technology (WPQR – Welding Procedure Qualification Record) and the employment of competent personnel in welding, ensure that a product that meets the defined quality requirements will be obtained.
