1957 - The beginnings of nuclear energy
At the end of 1950, atomic energy was considered the technology of the future all over the world. Across political party lines, there was agreement that West Germany should play a leading role in the use of an almost unlimited source of nuclear energy.
In the fall of 1957, TÜV Bayern organized a working group on nuclear energy and radiation protection and prepared a safety report for the research reactor in Munich, which started operating on October 31 of that year.
Munich TÜV experts were also sought as consultants in the construction of the first experimental nuclear power plant in Kahl near Aschaffenburg (1958-60) and for the construction of the first German power plant in Grundremmingen (1963-66).
