TÜV SÜD - Safety Gauge - Satisfy your appetite for detailed consumer and business understanding
The TÜV SÜD “Safety Benchmark” is a market research study that primarily investigates the awareness, understanding and significance of food safety issues among consumers and businesses.
The results of the research show that 7 out of 10 consumers believe that product safety is very important when purchasing. Moreover, it is assumed that this percentage will increase in the next 5 years.
Further research reveals that the food industry mandates more safety practices than other sectors. Additionally, third-party testing services are more commonly used within the food industry. Despite these efforts, almost 1 in 3 industries believe that food safety remains a significant problem in the food segment in general.
Based on these findings, there is a chance for industries to increase food safety by shifting safety efforts from the exporting country to the country of origin. This “safety at source” approach will deliver cost savings and increase transparency of supply chains while training local suppliers on global food safety standards. In turn, consumers will benefit from improved food safety standards.
