At the third international conference about food and beverage safety “What do we eat?”, held on May 31st in Hilton hotelin Belgrade, organized by the TMS CEE certification and control body, Mr. NenadDolovac, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, opened the conference with areview of the situation in the field of food safety in Serbia today and pointedout that it is within the European framework. He also stated that nationalregulations are harmonizing with the european regulations, which is not an easytask, since 2/3 of all the regulations that need to be adopted relate to thefield of agriculture. He stated that the National Milk Laboratory has beenopened, which will enable significantly better tracking of the producers inthis field.
Mr. Nenad Vujovic, Assistant of Minister of Agriculture,stated that the transition from the old model to the new model of inspectionsupervision, based on risk assessment, has already begun to give positiveresults in the field of inspection supervision, thus achieving a more effectivework of the agricultural inspection in accordance with EU standards.
Also, panelists presented presentations withsignificant data and latest knowledge on trends in IFS certification, safetycontrol of alu packaging, design of food of animal origin, importance ofintegrity of certificates, food hazards and how to prevent them, organic sugar,defenses against food fraud, quality of raw milk, the quality of drinking waterin the 21st century, the importance of selenium intake in the body, as well asthe IPARD program.
